Senior Theatre Arts students with a double minor in communications and arts management, Ami Majeskie takes us behind the scenes at WOMEN OF MANHATTAN rehearsals and shows us her process of becoming Judy. Outskirts Theatre Co member, Gemma Fitzsimmons, created all the (very 80's) hairstyles in the show! The set is also underway! Here is a sneak peak at the New York skyline that is being constructed! It was all hand painted by student, Sam Ellis Sherman.

Professional Writing and Communications double major, Jack Sherman, give us an inside look at RENT rehearsals and his preparations for his character, Mark Cohen. Andrea Klohn, choreographer and assistant stage manager captured a great moment in rehearsal! Roger and Mimi sing "I Should Tell You" while working out the meaning of their relationship. Student Cort Manton teamed up with Carroll Alumni, Chris Meissner to create some amazing lights for the production! Things are right on track for RENT and we can not wait to share this amazing work with the audience!
The cast of WOMEN OF MANHATTAN is rehearsing in full force! The three ladies this story revolves around are Carroll Theatre Arts veterans, performing in a combined total of over 30 shows at Carroll alone! However, they haven't had the opportunity to work this closely on a show together. Carly Sauer, who plays Billie, said, "It's been so fun getting to work on this project with these amazing and insightful women. This story is like a character study, which explores the motivations and tactics that real people interact with in everyday life. This story is extremely relatable and fun." Cast member and '15 Carroll Alumni, Taylor James Burzynski captured some rehearsal moments! Our partner in crime, Outskirts Theatre Company also got a great picture from our designer run!
RENT rehearsals are well on their way! Hooray! Carroll University Alumni, Taylor James Burzynski teamed up with fourth year Theatre Arts major Ami Majeskie to create an exclusive sneak peak into the making of RENT! It was so fun to watch everyone's characters come to life when the music started. The choreographer, Andrea, also worked really well with the cast, letting them explore and discover their characters through movement. The cast has really gotten into the physical aspect of this show! Ensemble member Allyson knows how to prepare for a night of rocking out! Check back next week to see exclusive content into our other production, WOMEN OF MANHATTAN!
In the words of Taylor Swift, welcome to New York. This summer marks the second ever Summer Repertory series at Carroll University. This, is also the first blog post. Watch, share, comment and follow us along on this journey of intense theatre production. Let's do this! Both our shows this summer take place in NYC. One in an gritty and urban east village and the other in an upscale west end town. RENT Based on Puccini’s beloved opera La Bohème, RENT follows 'a year in the life' of a group of impoverished, artistic friends living in Manhattan’s gritty East Village. Dreams, love and loss weave their way through this iconic rock musical - painting a stunningly raw and highly emotional portrait of New York City in the 1990's, struggling to survive in the shadow of HIV/AIDS. WOMEN OF MANHATTAN Before there was HBO’s Sex and the City, there was Women of Manhattan! This funny and charming play follows three female characters: Billie, Rhonda and Judy who continually gripe that, while their careers may be flourishing, their emotional lives continue to be a complete disaster. |
