Festival of New Works

March 4-6 at 7 p.m. | Livestreamed from the Otteson Theatre
​Mentored by Prof. Jenn Dobby | Co-Production with the Carroll Players

In Spring 2021, join us for a showcase of original ten-minute plays written, directed, produced, and performed by students and alumni of Carroll University's Theatre and Arts Management program.  The production will be livestreamed from the Otteson Theatre and available to view from the comfort of home.  Rated 16+ for language and adult content.

How It Will Work?

Thursday, March 4, at 7 p.m., we will be performing half of the plays LIVE in Otteson Theatre and streaming it to everyone at home.  Thursday’s line up will feature: THE BLAIR WITCH PROSPECT, FIRST DATE, BETWEEN TWO WORLDS, MIRROR, and BETTY MY LOVE.

Friday, March 5, at 7 p.m., we will be performing the second half of the plays LIVE in Otteson Theatre and streaming it to everyone at home.  Friday’s line up will feature: 54M, F*CKIN’ UMBRELLA, MATTY AND RON ESCAPE SPACE PRISON, A NEW HOME, and ADULTS IN SPACE.

Saturday, March 6, at 7 p.m., we will be premiering both of the performance nights’ recordings as one event with a 10 minute intermission in between nights.  This prerecorded event will be available to watch and rewatch through Sunday, March 7, at 11:59 p.m.

THE BLAIR WITCH PROSPECT by Celeste Goeller '19

A storybook romance featuring witchy contracts, ridiculous alliteration, a man who to this day is STILL talking, and above all else, Love.

Ryan Albrechtson (’16) previously studied Theatre and Arts Management at Carroll. He has performed in many Carroll productions, both before and after graduating. He also founded Outskirts Theatre Co. in 2014. Ryan is thrilled to work in the Otteson Theatre again: “My whole life and career started there and I’m very excited to be back in a space that was home for so long.”

FIRST DATE by Julia Nelson

This romantic comedy is about Toby, a young man who has arrived at a restaurant for a date, and Cass, a male waiter who has had a crush on Toby for a while.

Maddy Buchta (’21) is a current Graphic Design and Theatre Arts double major with a minor in Computer Science. Aside from acting in several Carroll productions, she has also worked on the student PR team as a Creative Director, Social Media Manager and Graphic Designer. About being a director, Maddy said, “I am really looking forward to trying a newer aspect of theatre for me. I feel I’ve learned a lot about character development and storytelling through my experiences as an actor and graphic designer and am excited to apply both of those to directing.”


BETWEEN TWO WORLDS by Josiah McKenna '15

A young couple moves into their first house only to find that something is amiss, and it would appear that their new home is situated in more than just the quaint suburbs.

Brad Weller (’21) is a current Theatre Arts and Musical Theatre double major at Carroll. He has participated in many aspects of theatre such as acting, directing, videography, music composition and set building. Brad is very much looking forward to putting on a great show before graduating from Carroll at the end of the semester.

Julia Nelson (’21) is a current Theatre Arts major with minors in Arts Management and Creative Writing. She has been a dramaturg and assistant stage manager for several Carroll productions. She also acted in one of Carroll’s bilingual plays and operated a livestream camera for ROMEO + JULIET (A COVER). Regarding her newest role, Julia said, “This will be my second time directing a ten-minute play, and I’m interested to see how my skills have developed over time. I’m also excited to be directing alongside so many other Carroll students and alumni!”

Allyson Imig (’16) previously majored in Theatre Arts and minored in Fine Arts Administration. At Carroll, Allyson took part in musicals and directed one as her senior capstone. She was also the Social Chair of the Carroll Players from 2014-2016. She is currently on the Artistic Staff for Outskirts Theatre Co. and is Administrative Staff at Footlights. When asked what she was looking forward to about directing, Allyson said, “I was supposed to direct a show for Outskirts this past May, but due to COVID, had to cancel and was extremely heartbroken. So, I absolutely cannot wait to just jump right back into directing and do something creative again for the first time in forever!”

Allison Klauke (’18) was a Theatre & Art Management and Marketing double major at Carroll. She participated in almost every aspect of theatre at Carroll, such as directing STOP KISS, assistant directing HAMLET (A COVER) and being on the PR team. When asked about directing, she said, “I’m very excited to just be creating theatre again. The last production I was a part of was in the fall of 2018, so I’m so excited to be back working with others to create one of my favorite things—theatre.”

Ky Peters (’21) is a current Musical Theatre and Music double major. They have been involved in multiple productions on campus, both onstage and off, such as ROMEO + JULIET: A COVER and JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT. Their directing debut was in the THE307 Directing for the Stage course where they directed WHACK-A-MOLE by Beth Lein. Ky is most excited to again be in the director’s chair and to work with such talented new playwrights to bring these new works to life for the first time.

Kristina Larson (’20) is a recent graduate from Carroll who majored in Theatre Arts and Communication. She was the Assistant Director of SPRING AWAKENING, Assistant Stage Manager of STOP KISS and a props designer and actor in several other Carrol shows. She is thrilled to be able to rejoin the Carroll Theatre Department as an alumna for the first time with a different role in the process.

Harper’s feeling confused, and the ladies in his life aren’t exactly helpful. Through flashes of moments with the different women he’s surrounded by, Harper tries to understand, and come to terms, with his own sexuality.

​​Skylar Campbell (’21) is a current Theatre Arts and Sociology double major at Carroll. They have been a stage manager, assistant stage manager and assistant lighting designer in past Carroll productions, and they also work in the scene shop where they help build sets. When asked about their directing role, Skylar said, “I am so excited to show my style as a director here at Carroll. I’ve yet to use my directing style after transferring to Carroll. I’m also really excited to work on an original piece by a new playwright!”

Mark Morris (’20) previously double majored in Theatre Arts and Management and Leadership. Mark was involved in seven productions at Carroll in roles such as the stage manager. About being a director in this festival, Mark said, “Coming back to work in the wonderful space that is the Otteson Theatre will be refreshing. I’m looking forward to directing in a space I’m familiar with and putting my skills I’ve learned post-grad to the test!”
